The Jay County Historical Society has just received word that we have been awarded a Heritage
Support Grant in the amount of $25,000. This grant is provided by the Indiana Historical
Society and made possible by Lilly Endowment Inc. This is the third Heritage Support Grant
JCHS has received. We are very grateful for this large amount of funding. These grants enable
us to make many improvements at the museum.

This grant will be used to replace the flooring in the front entryway and halls, the library,
meeting room, three office areas, and kitchen. The flooring in these areas has been down since at
least 1972. The current carpeting in the kitchen area will be replaced with a water resistant, hard
surface flooring material. The rest of the spaces will have carpeting. Medler’s Furniture, a
long-time Portland business, will be installing the flooring.

A cash match of 15%, or $3,750, is required for this grant. If you wish to help us meet this

We have until late June 2024 to complete this project. We’ll be needing lots of volunteers for
packing and unpacking displays and moving things. If you can donate any time, even an hour or
