The Portland Foundation recently awarded
more than $370,000 to local organizations and
individuals in the form of grants and scholarships.
The Jay County Historical Society was
awarded two grants during this cycle, both of
which will be paid from unrestricted funds held
by the foundation.
A grant in the amount of $6,000 is to help
with roof repairs on the older part of the museum.
It is hoped this will be a permanent fix for
a persistent problem which has plagued our
building and grounds committee over the years.
The second grant is for $45,800 and is to
help fund the purchase of the Water Street
property which will be used for additional storage
and parking space. This grant covers almost
one-half of the $97,000 purchase price of
We sincerely thank the Portland Foundation
for these grants and their continued support of
the Jay County Historical Society. Through
funding received from the foundation, the society
has been able to expand and improve our
facilities throughout the years.
We also thank those of you who have already
given generously to help with the purchase
of the additional property. However,
more funds are still needed to cover the entire
cost. All donations, no matter the size, are appreciated.
