The Jay County Historical Society has been awarded a Heritage Support Grant in the amount of $33,900. This grant is provided by the Indiana Historical Society and made possible by Lilly Endowment Inc. The grant will be used for electrical system repairs at the museum.
With this funding, much of the electrical service will be updated to meet the needs of the museum and all codes. Service from American Electric Power into the building will be upgraded, and wiring into the building will be changed. Five original large breaker boxes in a storeroom will be replaced with an up-to-date load center. Other wiring will be done and a sufficient number of grounded outlets will be installed to meet codes.
A required cash match of 15%, or $5,085, along with the $33,900, will cover the quote from Greg Franklin of Franklins Electrical Service in Portland. Greg and his crew will be doing the work during the next year.
We are currently accepting donations toward the $5,085. If you wish to help us meet this goal, please indicate that your donation is for the “GRANT MATCH” and mail or drop it off at the museum at 903 E. Main Street in Portland, IN. We thank you in advance for your support.
