James A. “Jimmie” Schindler was born in Geneva, Indiana, in 1934. He was put into an orphanage at age three and, following fifth grade, a foster home where he was terribly mis-treated. He graduated from John Carroll University in 1956, served in the U.S. Army, and was the founder and owner of Jimmie’s Pizza Inns and Bandidos. These restaurants were in Fort Wayne, and were both in Portland at one time. Jimmie passed away in 2020. Despite an unhappy, poverty stricken childhood, he maintained an extremely positive, cheerful outlook.
Jimmie is the author of Schindler’s Tiny Tales and Whatnot which is available at the museum for a bargain price of $2.00. The book is a very easy to read, enjoyable collection of incredibly short, true, and humorous stories that either happened to Schindler, his family, or his friends and acquaintances.
